gonna be a good weekend
Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 01:13PM I am really excited. This weekend is going to be fun. Every year, we have one Sunday at the Turning Point where we celebrate and honor those who have been faithful to God for ten years. (This year, we had to move it to Saturday.) It is always so moving to see the people on stage, receiving their crystal globes, knowing what many of them have faced and overcome in the last decade. I love to see the result of faithfulness, of difficult decisions that were made, of temptations that were resisted. I love to see parents who were not married or parents ten years ago who have a life full of hope and promise. It is a great tradition, and I am so glad that we observe it.
We also have our annual Kids' Christmas Concert, where all the kids from three years old through sixth grade sing for the church. The older kids are so great, and the younger ones are cuter than should be legal. Traci has been working with them for the last several weeks, and it is always fun.
We also have our annual Toy Drive where every member of the church brings an unwrapped toy to give away. It's a great day.
What's cool about this service is how many volunteers it takes to pull it off. Between the KidsPoint workers, the set up crew, the sound crew, the band, the toy drive volunteers, and everyone who is helping with the globes, there have to be around 150 people working together just to make the service come together. I love it when you see the church in action like that.
To top it all off, I am praying for one person in particular to cross the line, make Jesus Lord, and get baptized. It could happen this Sunday. If it doesn't, it means God still has work to do, which is fine. When it does, though, it will be one of the greatest days of my life.
Yep, gonna be a good one...
