leucine enkephalin
Monday, March 1, 2010 at 11:33AM Happy New Year! My second new year is starting off great. Early morning run, early morning Bible, early morning coffee.
The general malaise that seemed to settle on my chest like a gorilla for all of last week seems to have vanished, leaving me excited, energized and hopeful. I just find it so interesting (frustrating? maddening? irritating beyond belief?!?) how my emotions can rise and fall, yet have so little to do with my actual circumstances.
In any case, I am going to try to take advantage of the momentum that these emotions are giving me and take as much ground as I can while it lasts.
On another note, I read something this morning in Mark Batterson's blog about human tears. We are the only mammals that produce emotional tears. Our normal tears contain a variety of elements, including an enzyme that fights bacterial infection. However, our tears brought on by mourning or suffering or emotional pain contain a natural painkiller called leucine enkephalin.
How great is our God that he would create us in this way? Talk about fearfully and wonderfully made...

That's why I like going to sad movies - the tears are refreshing :o)
But on a serious note, thanks for being transparent. It's illuminating to learn that
others go thru emotions other than just me.
