toes in the water

In Joshua 3, there is a great story about the Israelites getting ready to cross the Jordan River and take possession of the land.  The Jordan was at flood stage, which meant it wasn't just a little babbling brook.  It was a raging river.

The priests carrying the ark were to lead the people across.  If it were me, I would have liked the river to part, and the ground to dry up before I started across.  However, the Bible says that the priests had to start walking toward the river, and that when "their feet touched the water's edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing." (Joshua 3:15-16 TNIV)

The river didn't stop until their feet touched the water's edge!  How scary was that, to have to take that first step into the river, believing, but still wondering what would happen?

This is how I feel right now.  Like God is leading me, giving me dreams and directions, but now I have to take the step into the river and watch it part.  I'm so excited.  However, normally when I am at a point like this, I tend to get stuck and just sit, trying to figure out what to do next.

All I keep thinking is "what's the next step?"

Question:  what is the next step for you to take to be obedient to the dream God has placed on your heart?  Why aren't you taking it?

Hi Jay, I am not sure who will see this comment, if you will or if everyone will. I just wanted to share with you a great book I have read, and read, called The Dream Giver by the same author who wrote the book the Prayer of Jabez. I don't know exactly where my copy is right now, but it is an analogy story about a "nobody" that is his name, who goes on a journey to follow the dream the dream giver gives him (God). It shows struggles he goes through, etc. I'm not sure if you like that type of book, or if you have already read it. Thank you for all of your inspiration and open hearted vulnerabiity. It could be a great book for the entire ministry to read if people want to. Thanks, Wendy
